Fort Sumter was the beginning of Civil War. The Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. The confederates opened fire on April 12,1861.
After Lincoln took office, he got a letter saying Fort Sumter was low on supplies and the Confederates demanded it surrender. Lincoln later responded with message saying he would send unarmed troops with supplies to Fort Sumter. He said he was not going to throw armed men there, unless they were fired upon.
Jefferson Davis ordered his troops to attack Fort Sumter before the Union supplies could arrive. They opened fire early on April 12, 1861.
High seas kept the Union ships from reaching the fort. Thousand shots were fired during this, but no lives were lost.
President Lincoln call for troops, and volunteers signed up. Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Arkansas voted to join the Confederates. This was the beginning of the Civil War.
